Salmon Flavored Candy Canes

Christmas isn’t Christmas without these Salmon Candy Canes.

This heartwarming holiday tradition hails from the tiny, out-of-the-way Norwegian village of Snovick (which, in Norwegian, literally means “tiny out-of-the-way village”). Back in the 1780s, sugar was scarce—but salmon was everywhere. Rather than disappoint the children at Christmastime, the villagers cleverly deboned their excess salmon, shaped it into candy canes, and hung them from the tree.

According to legend, none of the little tikes knew the difference. (Then again, there was a lot of inbreeding in Snovick in those days.)

Now you can carry on that noble tradition with your very own Salmon Candy Canes.

As they still say in Snovick: Kan itj tru vi faktisk fikk ungan te å eta det her!
